Copenhagen

Flying to and from Copenhagen is expensive. Copenhagen, more generally, is expensive as a whole. A sustainable smart city with a connection to the many transport options of Europe, Copenhagen offers a myriad of modes of transportation that make the cost of travel hurt less.

See below for specific information on how to get to the top destinations with greater respect for the Earth and your bank account.

  • This 14-15hr train-serviced trip takes you across a variety of stunning landscapes, which will make your eco-friendlier itinerary spectacular. Beginning in Oslo, the train will take you through several iconic cities.

If you are beginning your journey in CPH, you will take the train south through Odense, Kolding, Padborg, Hamburg, and finally, Berlin.

Rail infrastructure across Europe is expanding to improve routes, prioritizing beautiful views and sustainability.

    See tickets at this website.

  • Take the CPH to Oslo ferry through Go Nordic Cruiseline. Tried and true, I loved my experience on this ferry. It was the first time I took a boat rather than a plane, and I found it relaxing and beautiful - and so so memorable. This journey price starts at ~$45 per person, including luggage.

From your arrival in Oslo, take the the train north to Bergen. The fjord capital of Norway, Bergen is a charming winter city from which you can see the northern lights, sauna, and cozy up in quaint pubs.

I recommend taking this journey in February / March.

  • The train from CPH to Stockholm is ridiculously easy. Airbnbs and hostel prices in Stockholm are ideal in January and February. A winterscape of enormous proportions is Sweden is accessible by train. Click this link to book.

In choosing to take a roundtrip flight, you will contribute to the purchase of 5,222 kg of flight fuel - or roughly the amount of fuel used to drive a passenger car for 12,439 miles. This would be like driving exactly halfway around the globe. It is only ~400 miles in between CPH and Stockholm.

  • Getting to Paris from CPH sustainably is a bit more complex - as expected. If you choose to fly, nonstop flights are the best because they reduce the number of takeoff/landings (the most fuel-intensive stages of flying).

If you are interested in a train travel method, here are some reliable resources: Deutsche Bahn International, Rail Europe, and Trainline Europe. Fares start around ~$85 if booked in advance. These routes include a sleeper train from CPH to Berlin or Hamburg, and then a day train from these cities to Paris.

Night train availability changes seasonally - I recommend a trip like this in late April through late October.
